Louis Vuitton (August 4, 1821 — February 27, 1892) was one of the greatest leather designers in French history. He opened his first eponymous suitcase shop in Paris in 1854. A century later, Louis vuitton luggage and leather goods field one of the best brand, and now the Louis vuitton brand has not only limited to the design and sale of high-grade leather and bags, but to become involved in fashion, jewelry, sunglasses, shoes, luggage, handbags, jewelry, watches, watches, wine, perfume, cosmetics, books, and other fields, Louis Vuitton is famous for its two-letter initials as a luxury label. On June 6, 2017, the BrandZ top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands 2017 was released, and Louis Vuitton ranked 29th. Its headquarters is located on the Champs-Elysees in Paris, France.
The great success of Louis Vuitton as a brand came after the death of its founder. While Louis Vuitton was alive, the development of the brand was legendary. During his lifetime, Louis Vuitton designed and launched a leather case called the Gris Trianon. The suitcase is light in weight and decorated with grey canvas. It soon became popular with Empress Eugenie, the wife of Napoleon III. In 1854, Louis Vuitton married Emily Kellemance Balivo, also 33 years old. Three years later, Louis and Emily’s son, George Weedon, was born.
In 1860, Louis moved his factory from Paris to Asnieres in order to meet increasing demand. In 1867, Louis Vuitton won a bronze medal at the World’s Fair, which made the already popular “Louis Vuitton” brand even more famous, and its influence began to expand beyond France to become an international brand. In 1869, Ismail of Pasha ordered a Louis Vuitton suitcase; In 1877, Russian Crown Prince Nicholas ordered one; King Alphonse XII of Spain also specially ordered Louis Vuitton suitcases.
In 1871, Louis Vuitton moved again to No. 1 Sgrib Street. Louis Vuitton’s use of canvas as a decorative surface is very clever, as it can effectively protect the contents from theft, but the design style is also very easy to copy and plagiarize. In 1872, Louis Vuitton began to improve the style on a large scale, including creating his own unique canvas. The new canvas was brown and red in color and was called “striped canvas.” The design was once again a huge success, but was soon copied again and fakes became popular.
Louis Vuitton’s leather goods are still booming. The rise in his career coincided with many changes in Louis Vuitton’s family. In 1880, his son George married Josephine Patel. On their wedding day, The elder Louis officially handed over his head store on Scribble Street to George. Three years later, George’s son, Jastone Louis Vuitton, was born.
Louis Vuitton opened its first overseas store in London in 1885. In 1888, George Vuitton introduced a new design for the Vuitton suitcase. He designed the box to look like a checkers board, with brown and maroon colors. In addition, there is a “Louis Vuitton brand verification” logo on the suitcase. Even so, the new design was widely copied. It won Louis Vuitton a gold medal at the 1889 World’s Fair in Paris.
In 1892, Louis Vuitton began to introduce handbag products and issued its first catalogue of suitcases, handbags and bedding. On February 27 of the same year, Louis Sr. died at home, and his son George was officially heir to the Louis Vuitton company.
The Golden Age (1893-1936)
After the death of Louis Senior, George transformed Louis Vuitton into a world-renowned brand. In 1893, George showed Louis Vuitton’s products at the World’s Fair in Chicago, and the brand was officially launched in the United States. Since then, George has been working to raise the brand’s international profile. In 1894, he published a new book, The Journey.
In 1896, Louis Vuitton officially launched a canvas design with the function of brand logo, known as the “monogram canvas”, because it used a large number of symbolic symbols and Louis Vuitton logo “LV” in the style. George then traveled to the United States again, visiting major cities such as New York, Philadelphia and Chicago to promote Louis Vuitton.
George Vuitton’s death in 1936 marked the end of Louis Vuitton’s golden age of rapid growth. In all, George Vuitton designed and introduced more than 700 new products, most of which were successful. When George died, his son Jastone Louis Vuitton took over the business.
After the second world war
In 1946, in an effort to counter the economic depression that followed World War II, Louis Vuitton began to invest beyond suitcase design.
In 1969, Jastom Louis Vuitton died.
In 1983, Louis Vuitton teamed up with the America’s Cup rowing Race to create the Louis Vuitton Cup Rowing Race. In the Louis Vuitton Cup, the knockout winner races against the winner of the previous year’s America’s Cup. The same year Louis Vuitton opened its first store in Taiwan, in Taipei city.
In 2005, the Paris flagship store reopened at 6pm on October 9 after a renovation, with a fashion show at the Petit Palais on the same day, as well as an opening party to which guests from around the world were invited.
In 2018, it was rumoured that Louis Vuitton had hired a Weather-controlling Brazilian wizard to keep the rain off its fashion show, and that the wizard was also responsible for casting spells to keep the weather fine for the UK’s Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding last month.
